Girl Scout Troop 31602 Silver Award

What is a Silver Award Project?

A Silver Award can be earned by Girl Scout Cadettes from grades 6 to 8. The Silver Award is a project in which a group of up to four Cadettes research an issue they see in their community. They come up with ideas of how to address the problem, and then take action by creating a long-lasting solution. These projects are a course of action for girls to exercise and learn leadership skills in various ways. Earning a Silver Award is a significant achievement that demonstrates a Cadette’s commitment to a desired goal. It benefits the community and equips the girl(s) with valuable skills to help them in the future. This award is about making a positive impact on the community and also to have fun while doing it!

About our project

We are Siya K. and Siya D. from Troop 31602 and we decided to do our Silver Award project in March 2024. Our project consists of numerous events that ultimately lead to the awareness of greenhouse gases and their effect on our community. The first step in our project was to reach out to the public and raise awareness of our cause. We did this by hosting a booth at an Earth Day Fair at the Fremont Downtown Event Center on April 20th, 2024. During the booth, we had people stop by to play a matching card game about air pollutants and how they affect the environment. Following the Earth Day booth, we hosted two book sales on May 12, 2024, and May 18, 2024, to receive funds to support our website. Thanks to our local Service Unit, we received a matching fund of 50 dollars to go towards our project, allowing us to raise enough money for our website. This website is crucial to our project, as it brings awareness to this cause, so thank you for visiting it!

Why we chose this cause

We chose this cause because we felt it is such an important issue, but is not emphasized enough. Air pollution may not affect our daily lives now, but it eventually will if we don’t start taking action. From daily emissions caused by transportation to factories emitting tons of pollutants, we know air pollution is inevitable. We chose this project to minimize our emissions as a community so we can have a greener and cleaner Earth! By addressing this issue, we chose to protect both the community and the health of others. We believe that if we all work together as a whole, we can make a difference in our community and inspire others to do the same.
